The rivalry between the Amarillo Sod Poodles and Midland RockHounds is West Texas baseball at its purest — two sun-baked communities separated by 300 miles of open prairie, united by their devotion to Double-A baseball and divided by an intense desire to claim bragging rights across the Permian Basin and the Panhandle. Since Amarillo returned to professional baseball in 2019 with the Sod Poodles, the Texas League matchup with the long-established RockHounds has quickly become one of the most anticipated series in the Double-A calendar.
